The Hospital Scare!

On Friday February 20th I wasn't feeling too well all day but I was still going strong. my sister Jen had dropped her kids off as usual for me to watch. Well it didn't take long for me to start feeling worse. I had been taking tylonal all day keeping my temperature down and trying to keep my headache down. I put the kids to bed at about 8pm and went to lay down in my bed until jen came to get them. So at about 9:30 tim came home from work for his break and he said I looked really sick and took my temperature. It was 102.7 too high to have… especially pregnant. Tim said he would call the Doctor and ask her what we should do. She said to get me into labor and delivery right away so I called my sister and to my luck she must have not had her phone with her. I ended up calling Rachael a friend of mine to have her come watch the kids until my sister got home. It was almost midnight by the time we left and i was feeling worse then I had all day! We finally arrived at the hospital the lady checked us in and I started cramping up something I had yet to experience before. CONTRACTIONS!!! I was put right into labor and delivery where my contractions became more and more painful. I was crying by that point in so much pain I didn't know what to do with myself. Tim sat by my side holding my hand and answering any questions the doctors had. The doctor was concentrating and tim asked so what is going on? The doctor says she's in labor. I looked at tim his eyes popping out of his head. I said No it is too early. They said well since you are still only 33 weeks we will try to stop it, you haven't started dilating yet. Well to make a long story just a little shorter. After a ton of poking and prodding and my veins collapsing 6 times. My fever was spiking and got up to 106.3. they were finally able to get the I.V. s in me one in my left hand the other in my right wrist with the help of 3 nurses and finally the anesthesiologist to get the medicine in me to stop the contractions. They ran some tests and found out that I was extremely dehydrated and had a bad case of strep that is most likely what had put me into the contractions. Luckily with the help of medicine and a lot of liquid to hydrate me they were able to stop the contractions before it went to far. So by this time it was about 7 in the morning and I was so tired. Tim was getting tired too. I was hooked up to all sorts of machines and bags of medicine. They said you try and get some sleep and we will watch you down here to see how you do. I started coughing and I just felt more and more like crap. Everything with the baby was fine and he was looking strong and healthy so they sent us upstairs to recovery. I had great nurses and people taking my blood or poking me with needles for some reason or another. I started to become more and more dizzy and nauseous. I started coughing more and feeling pretty bad. My chest felt like someone was standing on me. They couldn't figure out why I was so sick. The doctors said pneumonia is not common in pregnant people but that was the next thing they were testing for it could be causing me to feel the way I was. They sent me back down to labor and delivery to be watched through the night more closely and run the tests. They came back with a few more results the doctor came in and said well you have strep like we thought. pneumonia on the right side pretty bad and only a little on the left. Next they were testing me for P.E. They thought I may have had a blood clot in my leg and a piece may have broken off and headed to my lungs. It would help to explain the symptoms. This test came back negative luckily that was a big scare. . They found out although it was not P.E. my left side however had an infected kidney and they needed to keep me there a little longer to monitor the baby because the infected kidney was really bad for the baby. I was feeling a lot better but still stick. The medicine was helping but I was so sick it would definitely take time. They then moved us back upstairs again and we now had results back that I also had an infection in both of my ears and a lovely bladder infection to add to the mess. By this time it was Sunday and my mom and dad showed up to see me and see how I was. I was just having to endure the pain miserably. It was really nice because tim had to work until 2am and my mom and sister were able to stay with me so I wasn’t alone. The next morning My parents went back home and I sat there with only a day until my 21st birthday. I thought I would make it home but I woke up feeling well sick. Shocker! So to make this story shorter again. Days and nights went by it was Thursday by this point and I was more then ready to be done. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired! Every day was more blood work and I was wheeled down to be strapped up to do a stress test on the baby to see how he was taking all of this. Well the contractions decided to come back not as hard as before but still they were there so the doctors were extra cautious and monitored them closely. I only had dilated up to a 1 when the contractions slowed and after about 4 hours stopped completely. I was able to finally breathe without the aide of the oxygen machine and the doctor said if I was able to go through the night without the help of the oxygen she saw no reason for me not to be able to go home the next day! Yepee! The next morning I woke up and they did the everyday stress test and checked my vitals everything looked great. The baby looked healthy and strong. Doctor Loewen then came in with the top High risk pregnancy specialist to talk to us and tell me what we had been through and things I needed to watch. basically the kidney infection had seemed to clear, the ear infections were gone, the bladder infection had cleared, my temperature was in control, my oxygen level was stable and everything but the pneumonia was mostly gone. I am now on the road to recovery. I was sent home with a few more days of antibiotics, a few more runs of pain pills and 29 little spots where I was poked with a needle! My hands and arms are covered in bruises but clearing up day by day. I am now doing a lot better still experiencing the coughing that hurts like heck but is supposed to mean I'm getting better. I am dizzy and nauseous most minutes of the day but I am feeling better and better as time goes by! that is basically the run down version of our last week. Thank you to all who came and saw me and those who were there for me especially to my mom and dad who even though my sister was having her baby they came up for a quick trip to check on me. Thank you. And welcome to the world little Matthew and Treyson.
